Can someone help define dangerous play in golf?

are we not suppose to take a shot until players in front are out of sight or out of range?

Can someone help define dangerous play in golf?nba 2k7

It would help if we wait until it's clear to play. Those other players are always getting in the way aren't they? lol..

Can someone help define dangerous play in golf?nba rules ,nba teams

My definition of dangerous play in golf is when there are golfers out on the golf course spraying balls everywhere and creating an injury waiting to happen for those that think of golf as a courteous sport with ettiquette as its main code of conduct. I see golfers that are playing several balls at a time and only playing the best one. They slow down play and they do not seem to care if they hit someone. That is dangerous.
Golf is about etiquette and personal integrity. You should always wait until it is clear to hit your next shot. That being said if you are teeing off on a par 5 and the group ahead of you is hitting their 3d shot to the green please hit your tee shot. You are not going to hit them unless you hit a tee shot 400 plus. Also when playing your 2nd shot on a par 5 please do not wait till the green is clear. The odds are they are not in your range unless you hit an absolutely perfect shot and even then the ball will maybe if you are lucky roll on to the green. If that does happen simply walk up to the green and apologize. But be ready for that group to watch you putt to see it you make the eagle.
Dangerous play is defined as playing the ball down on the edge of a 100 foot cliff, right next to an active snake bed, and during the climax of a fierce lightning storm.....all while sober.
You should wait until the players are out of range. Etiquette would suggest that you should also wait until they are out of sight (still out of range), so you are not pushing the group ahead. Be careful not to play too slow though.
Yes, you never want to take your next shot if you risk hitting or even landing your ball in the group ahead of you. Make sure you consider the bounce of the initial landing-- some fairways are firmer than others, and your ball may take a healthy leap forward. There is nothing ruder than putting when a group from behind rolls their ball onto the green, or drops it outside of the green. This demonstrates a lack of patience on their part, and in golf, patience is just part of the game. With that said, ensure you play a decent pace as not to hold up the group behind you. Public courses become crowded with warmer weather, and frustration builds when waiting on a group. Not to worry, a marshall should politely inform you if he feels your pace is too slow.
If you are at a par 5 and you are still 250-300 yds. out and your an (Amateur) I'd say you can hit up with no problems if the foursome in front is still on the green. If your say 150-200 yds. out then I would wait till all is clear. Quick play is great as long as your playing safe, and if the group is playing slow ask them if you can pass at the next par 3. "MOST" real golfers will let you, once in awhile you get the idiots that are out to screw up everyones day!

How do you know your score when playing golf?

if i play a game of golf (nine holes) how do i calculate my score and what is an average score

How do you know your score when playing golf?www.nba.com

Dont know how specific of an answer you are looking for, but here goes....Golf courses are set up on a Par(required) score, Par is a number that includes 2 putts per hole, ex. if a hole is a Par 3 you should only take one shot to get to green and then 2 putts for a Par, a Par means 2 shots are allowed to reach a green then the 2 putts and so on......you simply count your strokes(by established rules) from teebox to holing out and record these on your scorecard.....at the end of 9 holes you total your strokes and compare against Par, most courses are Par 36 for 9 holes so if you have a total of 42 after 9, you are +6 or 6 over Par.......an Avg score for 9 holes would be in the 41-45 range for most part time players, if you are a beginner start out with a goal of 54(avg of 2 over on each hole) and try to improve each time you play

How do you know your score when playing golf?basketball jerseys ,nba teams

If you are playing on a Par 3 course, then that will equal to be a Par 27. If it's a regular course, then it will have at least some Par 4's, and maybe a Par 5 or two along with a Par 3 hole. Basically a "Par" is the number of strokes allowed to finish the hole. A Par 4 is supposed to take you four strokes. If you get it in 3 strokes, then you are "One under Par." If you go over 4 strokes, then you are "____" over par. When you play the course should give you a score sheet telling you what each holes Par is.
Each numbered hole has a "Par" limit.

If the first hole is a 4 under and lets say you make it in 6 attempts? Then for hole #1 you now have a 2 over par. [+2]

The same hole the next player starts. And he makes the hole in 3 attempts?

He is now 3 under par or [-3]

[[This person is winning because he had made the hole in less attempts.
Its all about par. Par is basically the set number of shots it takes to get the ball into the hole. for example there is a hole thats par 4. Meaning in 4 shots you should be in the hole. If you get it in less than 4 thats good. 4 or more is bad.
number of strokes you take

9 hole average par is between mid 30's and low 40's, but if you don't know what these things are you probably aren't tiger woods, so you'll probably shoot a lot higher
Sorry but don't really understand.

You calculate your score by adding together the number of shots taken on a hole against the par for that hole - you then add those up over the round.

Other than that you will have to give more information
Add up all the strokes (swings) that you take to hit the ball from tee to green, until it goes into the hole. Record each hole, 1 - 9 then add them all up. Par for most courses is 36 for 9 holes.

Which is harder to play golf or tennis?

My friend and I are having a debate on which is harder. We were able to conclude that physically tennis is a lot harder, but mentally they are about the same. I am a varsity tennis player so naturally I favor the tennis being harder side. What are your thoughts?

Which is harder to play golf or tennis?nba draft history

Well I think tennis. The reason being that the server has to deliver an unplayable serve to the receiver.Should the receiver return the ball, the server must try and dictate the game to thier own advantage.Every shot by either player must be executed within seconds. The players must be extremely fit

Golf on the other hand,is far more relaxing. The players have time to evaluate thier shot.No matter how well executed, has no bearing on the ability of opponent to do likewise or even better.Plus the golfer has a caddy to advise and guide through every shot.

Whereas the tennis player must beat every opponent they meet to advance further in tournament. To the final

Unlike the golfer who is'nt really playing anyone.Thier challenge is the course itself.A golfer does'nt need to be fit,but must have great mental agility and tenacity.

A tennis player also requires this ability. So I think Tennis as it requires ability, fitness and youth.A golfer only needs ability

Which is harder to play golf or tennis?nba playoffs 2007 ,nba teams

tennis
They both have their level of difficulty and I think that they are not comparable to each other (apples and oranges).
Golf is much harder. I've played both at a pretty respectable level.

It is much easier to grasp the fundamentals of tennis. The shots are easier to make. The only thing making it more of a challenge is the need for physical stamina. And even that isn't much of a factor at the recreational level.

The components in golf that make it more challenging are precision and consistency. The shotmaking is much more precise. Very small inaccuracies in a golf swing produce wildly varying shots. And you need that precision consistently to be a good golfer.

At high competitive levels, mental toughness is probably about equal. But at recreational levels, golf requires a lot more focus.

Give golf a try. You'll find out for yourself quickly enough.
Tennis. I play both, and I find it much easier to go out and play golf than play tennis.
We know that these 2 games are different in nature. Tennis is confined to an small area for the players to run about. Golf has the entire golf course, average distance of 6000 meters for par 72 and 18 holes for the players to manage. Tennis is played with an opponent. Golf is playing against own self; i.e. you are responsible for your own stroke unlike tennis that the player is inference by the opponent's return stroke. However both games have one thing in common- mental strength. If all equal, the player with the stronger mental strength wins. I play both and enjoy both games very much.
to get 'good' in a shorter amount of time- I believe tennis is harder. To just hit the ball and get it 'in play' I guess that's where golf could be considered a harder game and I somtimes find that golf has a little bit of luck playing- so that could make it more or less hard. It also depends on the person and their natural abilities.

but basically... I think tennis is harder
I play both,, and persinally i think it is golf. i picked tennis over one sumer, but golf I hav played my whole life and it is alot harder to hit the ball than in tennnis.

They are both great sports
I think it is tennis. It is very a physically challenging game. The mental abilities required in playing tennis are less as compared to golf. But as far as physical strength goes, golf stands nowhere
Golf is hard to learn because of the different clubs used for the different shots in different situations, and learning to play the course. Golf is difficult to learn for sure, but there's more involved in excelling at tennis than golf.

Tennis is difficult to learn because you have to be in proper shape, and have to learn how to correctly serve (flat, slice and kick) up the line, to jam the returner, and out wide, not to mention how to volley, return serve, how to hit overheads, lobs, use topspin, underspin, sidespin, hit groundstrokes, backhand and forehands, and returnserve. Tennis is harder to play because to excel in it, you have to learn all the requisite skills, have a superior fitness level to golfers, and deal with playing on multiple playing surfaces such as hardcourts, carpet, clay and grass, but most of us will tend to play on one (hardcourts or clay, depending on which part of the world you live in). There's no coaching allowed during the match in tennis. I don't know if this is the case in golf. There are public tennis courts you can use for

free to work on your game in tennis, I don't know about that being

the case in golf.
both.

Depends on your ability. some people are good in one sport, others in the other sport.
,It has to be golf. I failed at learning both but I had more trouble hitting the golf ball. Even from a layman's stand point it seems lot harder to hit a tiny ball into a hole from such a distance than to hit a larger ball over a net.
I think it is golf.
tennis bcos u have to run around a lot which requires a lot of stamina not tat golf is easy compared to tennis golf is easier to play..
I play both and love both, but golf has proven the most difficult to learn. You're correct, tennis is more physically demanding but golf takes more patience, mental processing and nerve.

Which golf course is better, Tiger's Eye or The International World Tour Course in Myrtle Beach

A group of us are going down for a week and we want to know which course is better. Tiger's Eye is suppose to be one of the best ones down there and the world tour course has replica holes from well unknown courses around the world. Help please.

As a golfer who lives in Myrtle Beach, i would say The International World Tour Course.

Which golf course is better, Tiger's Eye or The International World Tour Course in Myrtle Beach?pro basketball ,nba teams

Tigers Eye is on a plantation with 3 other course's. Panther's and Lion's are decent tracks but nothing to write home about. Tiger's is definately one of the elite courses down there but I play World Tour every year i go down and it's the best. Amen's corner, sawgrass 17, and Swilcan bridge from St. Andrews are just a few of the highlights.

At World Tour you also get an ambassador that checks in with you every 3 holes or so and gives you caddy tips. You can schedule tee's for only 18 of the 27 holes but i have been able to get in the extra 9 everytime i've been there ($55 w/cart)

CAN'T TELL YOU WHAT KIND OF RUBBER, BUT THEY ARE INSTALLED BY WRAPPING DOUBLE-SIDED TAPE AROUND THE SHAFT, FILLING THE GRIP WITH SOLVENT, AND SLIDING THE GRIP DOWN OVER THE TAPE... IF YOU BUY YOUR OWN GRIPS, THEY WILL COME WITH INSTRUCTIONS... IT'S VERY EASY TO RE-GRIP YOUR OWN CLUBS!!! "HIT 'EM STRAIGHT"
Basically, there are two types of grips - soft type and hard type. Hard type grips are often built with cord made of cotton. A variety of types of cord (classic, GX, tour wrap) are available, and grips could be half or full corded.

Natural rubber, synthetic rubber and compound materials in conjunction with a number of cord and surface configurations offer different gripping characteristics. Grips could be either round or with a reminder, which is a line or rib on the underside of the grip that reminds the golfer where the hand should be placed.

The golf grip is attached to the shaft with a gluey type of substance

I've personally nevere done the drill, but have seen it demonstrated on tv. Does it work for you is the real question.
I don't know but when you do it, tell me when and where you are gonna practice caus I wanna watch.
Sure it will. I used to use a range bucket. Same difference. You want to build a stable, firm base to hit your shots from.
Sure it will, it will also help you with balance. Another good way to do it and not look rediculous would be to place your golf bag beside your left leg and hit balls without letting your hip knock it over. Good luck.
Not recommended. I think you are trying to hard to fix the hip slide instead of working on the cause of the hip slide.

I suspect the problem is you are trying to get maximum distance and therefore driving the hips into the ball. Distance is all about timing.

Try this so that you stop thinking about your hips.

Take your hips totally out of play when practising by placing your right foot in front and over your left foot so that your feet are crossed and together. The right foot outside of the left.

I am assuming you are right handed by the way.

Now simply swing at and hit the ball using your shoulders as your turning device.

This will slow your tempo down and give you much better timing. The result will be that you will be able to feel what movements will give you greater distance.

It also means that you can return the basketball so others can play.

HTH
I saw this tips from David Leadbetter video... I tried but for me it really difficult to do it.

Maybe the thing that my son do if he get bored on driving range could help you to fix your hip slide... put a golf ball on top of a plastics bottle... hit that ball using your wood.. If you want to see how to do that, you can see my 9 years old son video http://www.youtube.com/jutas98 find junior swing artist.
Yeah sure, and please film it, post it on youtube, and let us know.
Try turning your belt buckle to the target and show the sole of your right foot (right handers) other foot for lefties to the person on your right side at a safe distance no hip slide with this routine
It may prevent your hips to slide, but it will also discourage your hips from turning and your right knee from driving into the shot. I can't imagine how your belt buckle would end up facing the target if you got a ball between your legs...there is no way your right toe could remain on the ground while coming to a full finish.

Do you think that it should be legal for Seniors to drive Golf buggies around towns?

For some yes and for others no. It all depends on if the golf cart can be operated safely or not. Alot of the golf buggies in our community are driven on the sidewalk. They take up the whole sidewalk and you have to step in someones yard to let them by. If bicycles are not allowed neither should golf carts be permitted on the sidewalks. Safety equipment should also be required like turn signals, head lights, brake lights, and maybe even a slow moving vehicle sign. They should be required to operate on the shoulder of the road. For the most part it is an accident waiting to happen. If that is the only way for the senior or any other person to get around if they are limited by walking or other means than they should be able to operate them but law makers definitely need to take a look at this.

No. Old geezers are a big enough hazard on the road as it is now. After age 65 they should have to get a physical every two years, just like CDL drivers do.
NO AND WHERE IS IT LEGAL IN THE FIRST PLACE TO DRIVE THEM ON THE STREETS.

How do you find out your Golf handicap?

Handicap is calculated by using your best ten scores out of your last twenty 18 hole rounds on Yahoo!. However, it also takes into account the difficulty of the course by using the yardage, slope, and course rating of the courses you play. I believe that five is the minimum number of 18 hole rounds used by the USGA in determining handicap. They are the only official group to determine a handicap although they authorize several different companies to use their system for "official" handicaps.

You need at least 5 scorecards to get a handicap. The easiest way is to deduct your scores for 18 holes by 72. Average the results. If you play in the low 90s, you have handicap of 20.

How do i know what length golf clubs to have?

How do i know what length golf clubs to have?nba playoffs 2007

Hybird is the way to go a 2 iron is only used to hit the ball out from under the trees or kill snakes, for most golfers. You want the clubs to stay at their standard length except in extreme cases. A taller person can use a upright club and a shorter person a flat club. When you change the length it will mess up up the distance.

How do i know what length golf clubs to have?nba league pass ,nba teams

Ping has a great online tool to determine what clubs fit you best...click on the link to check it out!
Get fitted Proffesionally. Best way to go.
I have a 2 iron and it was professional fit and it measures about an inch or 2 below my belly button. I would measure from just below the belly button to the floor and that's you shaft length.
http://golf.about.com/cs/tipslessons/a/a...
If you bought a set, you driver should come up to just about you armpit, however if you only bought the iorn than it should be just a little shorter than you 3 iorn or 4 iorn.
since u seem to have a computer and can get on line. go to ping.com they have a fitting system there. u can measure urself and put the info in and it will tell you. good luck
Measure from the ball to your hand.
Golf club fitters start with a chart of standard club lengths. Clubs get shorter as the loft increases.

Then they measure the golfer to determine if there is a required adjustment to the standard length. Most use the distance from the wrist crease (between the hand and wrist) to the floor when standing on a hard floor in street shoes.

The standard length for a men's 2 iron is 39.5 inches. This is measured from the end of the grip, down the shaft to the floor, with the sole of the club sitting flat on the floor.

Use the following table to adjust from standard:

Wrist-to-floor distance / Adjustment

25 and 27 in. / - 2 in.

27 and 29 in. / - 1.5 in.

29 and 32 in. / - 1 in.

32 and 34 in. / - 0.5 in.

34 and 37 in. / 0 in.

37 and 39 in. / +0.5 in.

39 and 41 in. / +1.0 in.

41 in. and over / +1.5 in.

If you change the length of the club, you might also have to change the lie of the club. (the angle between the clubhead and the shaft) But get the length correct first, then get the lie checked by a golf store if the toe is pointed either too high or low.

Good Luck
Go to a golf store or pro shop and they'll measure you to find out.

Myrtle Beach or Florida would be the choices to look at, but most intensive golf schools where you go for four or five days don't allow for much beach time. You usually take instruction in the morning and then play 18 holes in the afternoon. Then hit balls at the range after your round, have dinner and get up and do it again the next day.

Find your local Country Club with a pro shop, the club pro there can look at your swing and he can tell you if they are short. If you do not have that look for any golf shop or Dick's Sporting Good's store. They have equipment and proper help with this.

If you live near a Golfsmith store you can go in and go to a clubmaking session for free. They will make sure you are fit properly and you get to keep two clubs. If you don't want to do that you can probably get fit free if you go to a demo day anywhere.

Have you ever cut open your golf ball just to find out exactly what was inside of it?

If you did, what did you find? I'm sitting here wondering what sort of tool I should use to cut open one of mine.

Yes, I'm bored. And I'm Curious.

Have you ever cut open your golf ball just to find out exactly what was inside of it?nba schedules

Yes -- both driving range, and regular.

The driving range ball was a solid mass of white material.

The regular golf ball had the outer layer -- a bit more than a millimeter thick. Beneath that was a layer that looked like rubber bands. Then, beneath that was a rubber core.

The rubber core was hollow, and contained a thick viscous dark gray liquid. Yuck.

Hacksaw. Do NOT hold the ball with one hand while sawing it with the other. The saw will slip and you WILL cut yourself. Put the ball in a table vise or something.

it is pretty cool. I have seen them when they have been broken. I have never broken one myself, just found them, but it is pretty cool
when i once opened a giof ball there was a rubber band bouncy ball inside. I also have opened other ones and they've all been different.
yes, its like strong rubber bands all tied together, under the white cover. I too was bored, and drunk.
try a hacksaw or a miter saw.
no, i have not, but I've seen them cut open on the golf range.

If you wanted to see the inside, you could go to your local public/private golf range and they will probably have some. Inside is a certain material. ???? I wouldn't suggest opening it. You could get hurt.
the secrets of the universe will be revealed to you.
I've seen one that was split open. It was rubber inside (like the kind used to make rubber bands).

Maybe yours is different though... Go on... Open it!!!

I'd suggest a small saw (I don't think an axe or wire cutters would work too well)
yes it depends what type of ball some have elastics and some have a hard foam, often a few types of foam. A hand saw is proll y the easiest way to cut it open.
I don't know whats inside them now but when I was a kid it was a bunch of elastic bands.
I used a hatchet to open one a long time ago....I was young...and I was stupid...don't do that. If I remember completely it was just a ball of rubber. Good luck!
I am 100% positive that there are fruit loops inside of them.
i have cut one open one day with a lawnmower try that.
As I recall it's a big rubber band type ball. That may have changed, and it's been a while since I did it.

Careful on the cutting - you could take out and eye :)
it's got a rubber band ball inside type thing. i can't remember how i broke it.
Cut it open with a couping saw.

There are many different configurations of golf balls on the market. Two piece, three piece, wound etc. Cut open a bunch and see for yourself.
yes it consist of one continuos rubberband wrapped around ahard rubber ball with an air pocket inthe center
It's just made up of rubber.

What's a good brand of golf clubs for a guy with a low handicap and is 5'10 tall?

My boyfriend works VERY hard and he deserves to have fun and relax once in awhile. Our anniversary is coming up and I'd love to surprise him with a new set of clubs. His current clubs are older than I am. What's a good (not top of the line) brand to get?

Here's what you'd be better off doing...get him a gift certificate to the local golf shop where you would be buying the clubs. That way he can go in and get properly fitted for the clubs he likes. It will make a HUGE difference in how well he plays his new clubs. I know it's not as exciting as giving him a box with shiny, new clubs, but if he's serious about golf, getting properly fitted is a necessity. You're a good girlfriend by the way...!

Kenneth Smith or another custom club would definitely be a good option. A set of irons might run around $1500
Best bet would be to get him a gift certificate for a new set. Especially if he is a good golfer, the individual look and feel of a set makes a huge difference. And it personal preference is intangible until you actually hit a few balls with any club. A good set of clubs (driver, woods, irons, wedges, putter) will easily run over $1000. If you want custom fit name brand, then you could be looking at $2000 or more for everything. But in the world of golf, like much of the rest of the world, you get what you pay for. Not only as far as performance, but in warranty. I had my Titleist driver that i paid $300 for for a year and a half and dented the face. They sent me a replacement the same week, only had to pay for shipping. Good golf clubs are an investment, so if he plans to keep on golfing I would recommend spending the money to get exactly what he wants. But then again it sounds like anything would be an improvement from what he has now.

you can find some used Calloway's iron's on eBay, the X Tour's are the best, for driver, a Calloway Fusion FT-3 is the best driver on the market, it's kind of expensive, but it unbelievable how far that little ball will go
Top of lines are gonna be your taylor made, callaway, nike, ping, titleist. I just got a new set of callaways and they werent cheap. Go with something like wilson or mizuno just not one of those that i listed above. Sometimes cobra are relatively cheap compared to those other and they are a very nice club. Your bf is a lucky guy to have you buying him clubs. Good luck!
Go with the gift certificate idea. Really. Using golf clubs that are not exactly what you want or need for your particular swing and game is like using somebody else's tooth brush. Let him decide. Really. Finding the right golf clubs is a lot like like finding a really good woman - it's a matter of taste and style. The gift is truly an awesome one, dear....but - just like he chose YOU - let him choose his own clubs!
Nike. Off the rack clubs should be fine. No need to get custom cut clubs from a pro shop. 5'10" is pretty average, which means standard clubs will do just fine.

How much does a golf ball weigh?

I don't think there is an actual rule of golf that states weight of golf ball, although there is a rule that states you must play with a ball that is registered on the 'Conforming balls' List produced by the R 'n' A.

But ball weight cant exceed 1.62oz, or in Metric 0.0459kg

Well there is a simple way to find out, as each person's golf Balls weigh differently, the simple solution is get two more balls, of your own, put them on the scale with the golf ball and compare the size, divide the size in cm by the cozmic value of the strength and energy of your balls. And that is how you can tell how fast you can hit your balls.

most ball boxes will say what you need. ex. titleist dt solo are for average hitters who want more control over the ball (softer core). the pro v1 have a soft and fast core that allows for less control and more distance. i used to use the dts and would hit my dirves about 220 yards- switched to nxt tour and now am hammering out 230-240 yard drives. (and for a 16 yr old girl that ain't bad)

How do I figure out what kind of golf ball is perfect for me?www.nba ,nba teams

Depends on what you are looking for in a golf ball. Higher handicap players tend to play a firmer ball, such as the Titleist So/Lo which gives you distance as well as some spin. Lower handicap players play a much softer ball that gives them feel off of short irons and distance off the tee, such as a Titleist Pro V1. Hope this helps!
Tell a golf professional about your game and ask for suggestions. Since that knowledge may cost you, go to a golf equipment retailer and ask the staff. Finding the right ball for your game can save 2-3 strokes a round!
find out what your swing speed is.

mine is under 100 ,, so i use a softer less compression two piece ball..

once i did i was able to get an extra 20 yards of the tee
I prefer Titleist. It depends on your ability and how much you are willing to spend. The Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x are both excellent, but a little pricey. Titeist does make several lesser expensive balls.
the best way is to try different balls in your price range and find out which ball fells best and reacts best to your game. i know it sounds bad and expensive but if you can notice much of difference between balls then it is something you need to do. Ball technology has dramatically improved the majority of peoples game, distance being one big factor. i wouldn't be surprised if there are restrictions put on balls for the pros in the near future, if not golf courses will just keep getting longer
There are 2 major factors that play into what golf ball you should be using.

1. The ball speed

2. The launch angle

You need to go somewhere like Golfsmith or club fitter to have them get you these numbers through a launch monitor. Most of these places will charge you a small fee to get these numbers for you.

The general rule is...

If you have a slow ball speed you'll want a higher launch angle, which equates to needing a golf ball that will generate a faster spin rate. You need more spin so the ball climbs higher and stays in the air longer.

If you have a high ball speed you'll want a lower launch angle, which equates to needing a golf ball that will generate a slower spin rate. With a faster ball speed you want the ball to bore through the air and not spin as much. Too much spin on high ball speed will create a ballooning affect and loose distance.
It's all about club head speed, and accuracy. "If you lose a lot of balls, buy cheap or second hand balls." If you can keep you ball in play, any ball will do.
Find out what kind of hitter you are. If you like to hit the ball as hard as you can just to get distance than go for a distance ball. The best I have found out there are the Balata high spin balls. They are good for distance and of course spin. It all depends on you.

Golf: Is there a penalty for deliberately hitting a tree / branches as part of a practice swing?

If during a practise swing if you hit a tree or branches there is no penalty unless it improves your lie, then there is a penalty stroke.

Golf: Is there a penalty for deliberately hitting a tree / branches as part of a practice swing?nba salary ,nba teams

I think in strick rules sense it's improving lie. So, there's a penalty for it. I think pretty badly like disqualify. That is if you're intentionally breaking the branch while practicing swings. But, if you unintentionaly broke the branch hitting your shots, it's a two strokes penalty each.

Golf is intent to keep the trees and its branches the way it was before you were hitting your shots.

That's why hitting from bed of roses are prohibited. It's a free drop.
Just touching them in a practice swing I don't think is a problem, but deliberately smashing them to get them out of the way (or break them off), would be improving your lie and a penalty.
There is a distinction between just hitting them (no penalty) and dislodging leaves/branches (penalty).

So be careful w/ "deliberately" hitting them.
If you were to displace or break branches, then you would be penalized. I don't think just hitting them without improving your lie would be a problem.
You're not allowed to intentionally bend or break anything fixed or growing.
Not unless you break branches. It's a penalty if a branch falls on your actual shot.

How did they get all them rubberbands inside a golf ball?

Most modern golf balls don't use those rubber bands any more. If you ever cut one of the old ones open, they had rubber bands and some sort of liquid in the center. Attached is an interesting (?) article on the anatomy of a modern golf ball.

As far as how they got the rubber bands inside the ball, I believe it was standard practice to use some of the same methods that are used in miniature ship-inside-the-bottle construction. The small hole that was used to delicately insert all of the rubber bands was then plugged with a small false dimple.

To start with, get a cheaper set from Walmart, ShopKo, Target, or any other discount retailer. Brand name for a starter set doesn't really matter. Usually around $120-$150. These sets will give you enough to start and will be enough to see if you enjoy the game. I also recommend not going hog-wild on all the accessories that are sold at these places. Get a set of clubs, a couple bags of tees (one bag a short tees, one bag of longer tees for use with the driver), a couple of boxes of balls (or bags of recycled ones),a glove (if you want), and a bag cart or stand bag. After all that....hit the course (not any houses) and have fun.

Is the par for a golf course hole base upon its yardage?

I'm trying to figure out if the yardage of a golf hole determines its par. Or is it a function of the difficulty?

Is the par for a golf course hole base upon its yardage?lebron james

Hello Clay

There are basic rules for determining par for a single hole.

normally under 250 yards is a par 3

over 250 and less then 450 is a par 4

over 450 is normally a par 5

There are some special cases but these are the norms..

I hope this answers your question .

Leon

Is the par for a golf course hole base upon its yardage?nba live 2008 ,nba teams

quite simply, yes.
It is the yardage.

You get 2 putts on any hole to make a par.

Par 5's are the longest so it takes 3 shots to get on the green, then 2 putts to make par.

Then Par 4's. 2 shots to get on the green, then 2 putts to make par.

Then Par 3's are the shortest holes. 1 shot to get on the green, then 2 putts to make a par.
The USGA has recommendations for the length, but they also look at wind directions and other things.
You can have two 18 hole PAR 72s but one can be 5300 yards and the second can be 7300 yards.

Both carry the same PAR, but the course thats 2000 yds longer will be much harder.

So length alone does not dictate PAR for a COURSE.

But length will dictate PAR for the specific HOLE

How do you get a par of "72" on most courses??

Because *most* 18 hole courses will have (regardless of length) the following:

-Ten Par 4s (40 Strokes) Par 4s are typically 250-450 yds.

-Four Par 3s (12 Strokes) Par 3s are typically 75-250 yds.

-Four Par 5s (20 Strokes) Par 5s are typically 450 and longer

So 18 holes = Par 72 Strokes

(Some courses may be restricted by land limitation and they may have five Par 3 and three Par 5s, so par will be less.A few course sneak in a Par 6, so they may be 73 or even 74.)

But even if Course A and B both have a 400 yd par 4, one can be uphill with trees and bunkers the other can be down hill and wide open, so length alone is not the only factor. The function of difficulty for each hole and course is captured in the Slope and Rating of a course. Your score card will typically identify the Slope and Rating for the course you're playing.

Those 2 figures helps you determine which courses of similar distance and par are most difficult.

Slope and Rating are tough topics to get through but here are some brief overviews.

http://www.leaderboard.com/abcs.htm

http://golf.about.com/cs/rulesofgolf/a/h...
Yes , and yes.
It boils down to difficulty.

In general, using any club in the bag...

If the average player can reach the green from the tee box using only one good stroke, it is a PAR 3.

If the average player can reach the green from the tee box using only two good strokes, it is a PAR 4.

...three good strokes, its a PAR 5.

BUT...

The same hole that is normally a PAR 5, for the average player, may be deemed a PAR 4 hole when the professionals come to town.

That's because of the difficulty factor.

You will have to make sure you didn't violate any patents first. You will need a lawyer and then you can proceed.

You will first start with test marketing. If you find there is a need for it then you will have to create a marketing package for it. Branding is most important. If you cant distinguish your brand for other then its over. The largest mistake in for inventors is that everyone thinks they have a good product and that's all they need. Wrong! Branding is.

After you have cleared all of this its time for you to move into the market. Try local retailers first and then upward. There are a lot or PR firms that are willing to take on your project but they will be asking for a cut. They will assemble a focus group to evaluate your product before they move forward.

Either way you have a long road ahead of you. Don't quit your job and don't blow your savings just because YOU feel you have a good idea.
yes and no

you could go to the company and talk to the manager about but there is a high chance they wont sell it unless u get a ptent and they see it really working

your best bet is to put it on an infomercial or something on tv to sell it
Just keep in mind that 99% of US patents end up being unprofitable. And no matter what, you're going to end up spending thousands of dollars trying to get it onto the market if you're really serious. No matter what anyone on here tells you, I'd bet dollars to donuts that none of them REALLY know what it takes to get a product on the market. It's a long and expensive process that drives many great minds with great ideas into bankruptcy.

BTW, whatever you do, do NOT call those inventor hotlines. You need to find a REAL patent attorney to help you through the process.
go to a local golf pro he can help you make sure you get a patented on it

I am doing project and I could not find the EPA limit on pesticides that can be used on public areas. So the next best thing I could know is what levels of pesticides sprayed on public areas can be harful to people: particularly atrazine and simazine

What levels of pesticides are harmful to people when sprayed in public areas like parks and golf courses?www.nba

It depends who you are. Infants and the elderly are going to be in a different risk group than young adults or the middle aged. People with asthma or other respiratory conditions are of higher risk, meaning less tolerant of pesticide use.

Keep looking for the lists of what the EPA allows and under what conditions it is allowed. A chemical that is used near a waterway may not be the same one that is permitted a few hundred feet away. Applicators must be trained and licensed.

That said, people get sloppy. If you can't find the data through the EPA or USDA, contact the grounds manager at a nearby golf course and inquire about their application programs. He or she can put you in touch with someone who needs to be able to produce documentation and answer questions to officials.

Or, go to the research desk at the library and enlist their help.

Good luck!

if you have a bit of cash to splash then you want to stay in the adam and eve hotel and play at the sultans course , not exactly in Istanbull but not to far away !

this is the nicest hotel and nicest course in turkey so it might set you back a few $$ but well worth it !

What are your thoughts of PGA golfers smoking cigarettes on the golf course?

Angel Cabrera won the US Open this weekend but was recorded live smoking a cigarette while walking the course trail. Is this a problem?

I can't see how it is a problem. He may continue smoking or quit at some stage. If it was an issue, the broadcasters would never have aired it. Still, it may have been the better part of discretion if they had done so.

Anyway, congratulations to Angel Cabrera for his win.

It's pimp status. Big John Daly and now Cabrera? It is the epitome of awesomeness--------------RJ Reynolds Spokesman.
i have no problem with them smoking, the problem are the people filming it
I don't have a problem with it.
Golfers need steady nerves especially at the PGA level. If he is a smoker, craving a cigarette is the last thing he would want to worry about. While the networks maybe should not go out of there way to show it, asking a golfer who smokes to abstain during a four-six hour pro round is a bit much.
I don't have a problem with it, but I was pretty surprised. Have you ever seen someone smoking while playing their sport? It just seemed strange. But I agree with what the guy above - I don't think they need to focus the camera on it.
This isn't the first time that it was aired on TV. John Daly was notorious for smoking and drinking during a tournament.

Do the "knock off" golf clubs really work just the same as the name brand ones?

There are sites out there like golfideas.com that sell clubs that look just like the super expensive clubs, only for half and some times more than half the price. But is the quality and performance the same?

Do the "knock off" golf clubs really work just the same as the name brand ones?nba hall of fame

No, the quality and performance of knock off clubs is not the same.

The clubs are not made from the same metals, they are not manufactured using the same tolerances and specifications, and they are not designed and engineered to perform the way the major manufacturers egineer their clubs.

The better player you are, the more this will effect you. As an example you may require a 9 degree driver, but you might get a 14 degree.....as a good player you would definitely notice this difference!

I would recommend used clubs as a lower cost alternative....I know Callaway runs their own site for used clubs.... http://callawaygolfpreowned.com/

Or ebay is a good option as well, just make sure you check the seller feedback before you buy.

But definitely avoid the knock off junk.

they can copy the structure of the clubs they even hire people who used to make the top clubs to do so but they can not copy the special metals

so knockoff irons are usually better than the drivers which really have to have the updated metal to perform
Yes , most are just as good as name brands. There are some bad clubs out there but most are good. I bet Tiger could hit really well with knockoffs. Its not the club that makes you a good golfer.
There is more technology built into premium clubs...not so on knock offs....however, its not the clubs, its the person behind the clubs....If you are a beginner to the game, I would recommend getting knock-offs till you see were your game level is !!!
I think so I bought Q4 driver and 3 wood from pinemeadows real nice clubs and they did not cost me my arm and legs.A lot of people on here think if the clubs don't cost a lot there no good. But think about this taylormade and others started as small companies to so you could call them clones
Yes,as far as my experience.I have knock off TaylorMade cgb's(T7's)and i swung the real and it felt the same, went the same, controled the same,no differance at all.Just make sure the shaft and grip are of quality name, thats where clones go wrong, and break.i have true temper gold shafts, and winn grips, had them for 2 years never a problem.
Yes, knock offs are only cheaper because the companies making them only COPY ideas, and therefore do not have to spend a cent on developing technology. Also, they spend very little on marketing. By spending less money, they can sell their clubs for cheaper. I bought a clone Odyssey 2 ball putter, and I love it. I got it for $40 and it is a$150 putter. Go with the clone!
HELLL NO . The knockoffs freakin sux . my friend had ping knockoffs and he couldnt do anything wit them . then he was given the real pings and wht a world of a difference. the quality and performance is no where near the real deal . My advice dont listen to the moron above me and dont freakin waaste ur money .
no, thats why they're half the price.

How do i beat my brother at golf without cheating?

He's about 10 or 12 shots better than me,he very rarely gives me any shots at the start of the round. He is the most competitive person i know.Is there any way i can get into his mind set and beat him. I know the simple answer is play better, but when i get ahead i buckle under the pressure!! lol

How do i beat my brother at golf without cheating?nba mvp

Know the Rules of Golf. There are so many rules and some of them are not common knowledge. The consequences for breaking the rules can be pretty steep too....from a penalty of a stroke or two all the way to disqualification. If you want to win without cheating, you should make sure that he is not cheating either.

You may also consider playing Match Play. Score is kept based on who wins the hole rather than on total strokes. In this form of play, having one bad hole won't put you too far behind.

How do i beat my brother at golf without cheating?nba trades ,nba teams

Practice more. You buckle under pressure because you don't have enough golf under you.

Really want to get into his head? Practice and improve. Trust me he'll notice and that's a mind game enough.
soak his grips in crisco the night before. I guarantee a win.

But honestly, spend most of your time on and around the practice green. Putting and chipping can make up easily 6-10 shots per round. Also, while at the range, use the first half of a bucket and just swing 75 percent and work on solid contact just to get the feal of a crisp shot. Then incorporate your full swing, you should start hitting the ball a lot more flush.

However, the short term fix, I'm afraid is either crisco, or take a couple of spikes out of his shoes. Ha ha, play dirty, it's more fun against an over competitive brother.
practice in secret, then wow him with your talent
Work on your mental and physical game. you will not beat him without practice.

if he was like my older brother they will play as much head games as possible. if you can play good golf while he trying headgames then he is in some trouble. the thing with pysching people out is they do it because they know they cant beat you. when someone tries to get into my head, i know i got them where i want them.

10 to 12 strokes? well i can help you shave 6-8 strokes off of your game. your "Short Game"

Walter Hagen who played in the 1920s was one who had more bad shots in a round then people do in a week. one of his best quotes was 3 lousy shots and 1 brilliant one still makes par.

that is refering to putting and chipping. if you are serious about beating your brother then you better start practicing putting and chipping 1-2 hours daily. whats better to get into their head this constantly missing greens only to chip it 3 feet from the hole?

remember putter is the one club you use on every hole(with the exception of chipping in)

why bang drivers all day on the range when you can practice putting? have you ever hit a great drive and a great 2nd shot only to 3 putt on the green? thats where those unessesary strokes come from.

more putts you make the more you will save pars and drain birdies.

you improve your putting i guarentee you that you will make up 6+ strokes a round.
I once worked with the National Schoolboy Golf Champion .....and asked him the same question.

He told me that on the Finals , he played the best player he had ever seen.....and who had an amazing swing........and was trying to frighten my mate , with how good it was and how crisp and clear it looked.

My mate went over to him and said "Your swing looks a little off today !" haha !

The man with the best swing in the world , couldn't hit a straight ball all day.....and my mate won , the competition , with a record high ! haha !
You need to find a way to get under his skin and annoy him when your winning act like it's really easy and try to look as smug as possible i always find this helps it works with my brother.
